1.Selection based on the working conditions
a.Working temperature
Chromium steel is suit for working at room temperature . When the working temperature is higher than 150 ° C and lower than 250 ° C, chromium bearing steel is also workable , but special heat treatment is required (tempering at 200 ° C or 300 ° C is required).
b. Load Capacity
Don’t use chromium bearing steel in strong impact load generally , the high-quality carburized structural steel, impact-resistant tool steel or quenched and tempered structural steel are strongly recommended.
c. Contact medium
Bearings used in corrosive media must be made of corrosion-resistant steel or alloy steel with good corrosion resistance.
2.Selection based on the type of the bearing structure
The structure of the bearing parts is complicated. when the one with outer ring is equipped with ribs and bears works under a high impact load condition, carburized steel with good processing performance should be used;if the stamping needle roller bearing, the outer ring choose 08 and 10 low carbon steel,
3. Selection based on bearing fatigue life and reliability requirements
In a certain extent,Bearing fatigue life and reliability depend on the purity and uniformity of the steel. For general use occasions, ordinary bearing steel smelted in acidic open furnace or alkaline electric furnace is used. With the continuous improvement of smelting methods,some new smelting methods such as current remelting, vacuum smelting, and electron beam furnace smelting have been produced,in which has increased the bearing life accordinly and suitable for bearings with special requirements for fatigue life and reliability.
